an art exhibit & auction event to benefit Siloam Mission
Desiree Mendoza – Event Planner & Coordinator

Volunteering within the community is nothing new to Desiree. She has been volunteering in different areas making a positive change in the lives of many individuals. From a local church organization to a downtown homeless shelter, she finds every opportunity there is to make a difference and touch people’s lives. She has been volunteering in Siloam Mission through its radiothon fundraising events. Desiree had also volunteered at Siloam Mission’s Clothing Room Program, helping patrons with their clothing and personal hygiene needs.

In February of 2010, Desiree found a reason to put up a third-party fundraising event to benefit Siloam Mission. Armed with a concept and vision, she presented her plan to the communications staff of Siloam Mission and the rest was history. Desiree handled the copywriting and creative direction for the production and printing of the event’s posters, flyers, invitations and tickets.  Although she works alone in this project, Desiree believes that anything can be done if one has the passion and the vision to make things possible. She’s also in-charge of the event planning, coordination, sponsorship, marketing/publicity and media relations for this event. Although all her work in this project is voluntary, Desiree hopes that all Winnipeggers and anyone who has a heart for those who are suffering homelessness and poverty, to unite and show their support to Siloam Mission through this event.

Desiree is now in her final year in the prestigious Creative Communications Program of Red River College in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She majors in public relations and plans to work for a non-profit organization. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts. Desiree can be reached at

Ryan Navarro – Graphic Designer

From the time Ryan learned about Desiree’s vision to help Winnipeg’s homeless, he readily got excited and went on board and volunteered as the event’s graphic designer. Although he is thousands of miles away from Winnipeg, his sincerity to help the city’s needy population was never an issue. He had also worked with Desiree in a graphic design firm in Asia, where both worked on many projects ranging from ad campaigns for Toyota, to producing advertising campaign materials for Standard Chartered Bank. By using his graphic design skills and many years of experience, Ryan was successful in interpreting Desiree’s concept for all of the event’s printed materials through his professional designs. The burst of colours in the event’s posters, flyers, invitations and tickets, refers to an artist’s masterpiece and the glow of white light in the middle is reflective of the hope that we can give to those who are suffering.

Ryan has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of the Philippines. He worked as a graphic specialist and creative head for several companies in the Philippines and overseas. He had also done consultancy work for several Philippine and international companies. Ryan is presently the Director of Design for an outsourcing design firm. To reach Ryan, send him an email at
